So… we got our new girls yesterday, and I’m not gonna lie, I am pretty upset by the condition of these poor little babies. Stephen told me the conditions at the breeder were pretty inhumane. I’m glad I wasn’t there to see it. Stuff like this makes me so sad and angry! 💔
Anyway, they look slightly better today than they did yesterday (still awful though!), but it doesn’t seem like they are interested in their food or water, which is really concerning. We’re hoping with a little time and TLC, we can get these little girls healthy and happy!
Here are a couple pix of the girls this morning. We’ll post more in a week or so. Hopefully they will look better then!
Apparently this little girl up front was getting pecked so badly due to over crowding that the breeder covered her backside with blue stuff to hide the blood. We are keeping a close eye on her. I’m sure she’ll be good as new in a couple weeks. We named her Fannie!
All of them look rough though. You can see that their backs have been pecked bald, and most of their tail feathers are missing. One of the girls has a deformed foot. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her, but I hope it doesn’t affect her ability to perch. When she gets more comfortable with me handling her, I will post a picture. We named her Clementine because she has crooked toes. Not that I’ve ever known a Clementine with crooked toes, but crooked toed Clementine had a nice ring to it, LOL! So we went with it!
I think they’re really enjoying their first full day at Humble Home! It’s certainly not what they’re used to! They spent yesterday evening standing on top of each other, huddled in the corner of their new coop. I don’t think they knew what to do with all this wide open space. Today they are thoroughly enjoying the green grass and sunshine! They’ve been eating tomato plants and bugs, and digging in the wet dirt. They have never seen any of these things before. These lucky little girls just hit the jackpot!
We will be sure to post more pictures and keep you updated on their progress. I think that in about two weeks we won’t even recognize these girls. Please send healing thoughts their way!
As always, thank you for stopping by Humble Home! We appreciate you so much! We hope you all enjoy your weekend.
